The dream of Olive Shelton, who, while living in Asia for 22 years fell in love with Indonesian culture, history and craftsmanship, has envisioned owning her own furniture business for many years and is excited to share her love and experience of Asian furniture with her friends and customers. As a family run business Matahari is committed to tailoring our services to fit the needs of our customers. With our show room conveniently located in the heart of the fast growing city of Montego Bay, Jamaica, we are perfectly situated to service our local residential customers, returning residents, investors in our beautiful island as well as offering a host of services to the hospitality industry.

Our Products

While we primarily import teak, mahogany, synthetic and natural weave (wicker etc.) furniture, our supplier base is very broad. We are able to provide marble flooring, counter tops, basins and tubs, terrazzo basins and bath tubs, custom brass furniture hardware, limestone and other natural stone flooring, wood decking, windows & doors, water features and statues from natural stone or terrazzo.

In our showroom you will find a great balance between traditional and modern or contemporary furniture. And if we don’t have what you’re looking for in stock your options are almost endless. Either select something from one of our many catalogs or custom design your own piece by either bringing us a picture of something you like or by changing a design that we already offer. Our manufacturers can customize something as simple as a dining chair or something as complicated as an entertainment unit or a custom sized dining table. Quality

At Matahari quality is first and foremost and we stand behind our products 110%. All our suppliers adhere to the highest standard of manufacturing and finishing and all our furniture is quality controlled during fabrication, finishing and packaging. All our wood is kiln dried down to a moisture content of approximately 12% to ensure that our furniture will not crack in an air conditioned or dry environment. Solid wood is our material of choice; however high quality veneer may be specified by our customer as a means of reducing cost. Additional insect-prone woods like Mahogany are always treated in a pressurized borax chambers.

Our outdoor synthetic furniture is perfect for all-weather outdoor conditions. It is manufactured using aluminum frames that do not corrode and the finest weaving materials such as Viro™, RehauTM and EcoleneTM to produce lightweight and functional styles. These synthetic fibers are boldly revolutionizing design, providing chemical and UV resistant, all-weather proof, fungus proof, high tensile strength furniture that is safe for the environment and 100% recyclable.
